Over 20 Midwives, Doulas and Birth Educators from Brooklyn Support Justin
As you may know, we talk about birth in my house. A lot. Casey is a midwife, birth educator, owner of Parent Craft, and former co-chair of the NYC Midwives—and has been my guide and partner in understanding how to champion birth in New York City.
That's why I'm proud of Midwives for Justin—over 20 midwives, doulas and birth educators from Brooklyn who are supporting my campaign for City Council!
State Senator Gustavo Rivera Endorses Justin Krebs
Today, State Senator Gustavo Rivera, a progressive leader, chair of the New York Senate Health Committee, champion for the NY Health Act, and ally to midwives and birth providers, endorsed Justin Krebs for City Council.
"For over a decade, I've seen Justin listen, learn and lead,” said Sen. Rivera. “He's contributed to building our Senate majority, he has stood on the side of the people over the powerful, and he does so with warmth and good cheer. He and Casey have helped me learn more about birth and midwifery, and Justin will be an excellent ally as we fight for health care as a human right here in New York State."
Ben and Jerry (Yes, the Ice Cream Guys) Endorse Justin Krebs
It’s Ben! And Jerry — yes, that Ben and Jerry, the ice cream guys!

AOC’s Courage to Change PAC Supports Justin
I am honored to be on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's PAC Courage to Change’s list of approved candidates! At Saturday's event in City Hall Park, we were so excited to hear Rep. Ocasio-Cortez encourage voters to list me — among an esteemed group of progressive change-makers — at the top of the ballot!
Courage to Change chooses to support progressive candidates who advocate for racial, social, economic, and environmental justice. Help spread the word over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has inspired a true progressive movement in NYC and beyond. She championed so many of the projects that we worked on at MoveOn like the Green New Deal and Medicare for All. I am proud that at MoveOn we endorsed her in her first primary and were among the earliest partners of the Green New Deal. If elected, I plan to continue her progressive legacy.
American Institute of Architects New York Endorses Justin
The AIA has worked in the interest of the public’s health, safety, and welfare for 160 years. That’s quite a record! And to meet the challenges we face today, the AIA advocates for sustainable architecture, economic opportunity, and thoughtful investment in our communities. This storied institution knows the best path forward for the community’s infrastructure, and it is an honor to have their endorsement and their support of Justin’s plan to invest in the 39th District.

Anti-Corruption Lawyer and Progressive Activist Zephyr Teachout Endorses Justin Krebs
Zephyr Teachout, an anti-corruption lawyer, progressive activist, and former candidate for Governor, endorsed Justin Krebs for City Council.
"I've known Justin for over twenty years, and enthusiastically rank him as #2,” said Zephyr Teachout. “He gets how power works, how Amazon's monopolistic practices are the real plague beyond the pandemic.”
"His candidacy is different because he's built a non-profit institution that has had to navigate the city, real estate, agencies, permits, contracts—much like the community organizations, non-profits, coops, mutual aid organizations, and small businesses he could help. He's got a huge heart and loves children (well, all humans) and democracy and art as much as a person possibly can. Please rank him on your ballot!"
Krebs and Lander Campaigns Survey Remote Families Citywide to Find Out What They Need to Come Back to the Classroom
New study interviewed more than 100 families with all-remote students in public schools across the City to find out what it will take to get them back in-person.
A majority (64%) of those surveyed say they are very or somewhat likely to come back in person in the fall with 21% still uncertain — and more than half saying nobody had reached out to discuss the fall yet.
Vaccinations for families and students, keeping up safety measures, and lower COVID levels in the summer, at top of mind.
Results highlight the need for the City to engage families in a dialogue to shape a plan for the fall. The candidates plan to continue surveying over email and other outreach methods to gain additional insight.

Council Candidate Justin Krebs to Bike all 120 Miles of His District; 10 Miles to Go
Four weeks ago, City Council candidate Justin Krebs began a quest to bike every block in Brooklyn’s 39th District, roughly 120 miles of NYC streets. Now, he has less than 10 miles to go. The project allows Krebs to see firsthand where our City’s bike infrastructure works and where it must be improved and is a continuation of his lifelong enthusiasm for biking and looking at how to create and share open space in our city.
Justin Krebs - Zoom House Party for Arts & Culture
At around 8pm on Tuesday, March 30th, Justin Krebs joined a zoom house party, moderated by long-time friend and comedian Negin Farsad, to discuss his ideas around supporting District 39 and New York City’s arts and culture. The meeting included a wide variety of creatives, including comedians, artists, actors and producers from the city.
Some participants were long-time friends that Justin has cultivated after years of involvement in the city’s arts scene, primarily through his co-founding of The Tank theater. This theater has produced more first-time shows than any other venue in the city over its 18 year run – making it, and Justin, a vital part of the arts and culture ecosystem of New York. Justin has also been a part of launching Drinking Liberally and Laughing Liberally, both creating opportunities for a range of artists to perform while functioning as a progressive social space.

Statement: Justin Krebs’s Statement on de Blasio’s Two Case Rule Anouncement
ollowing Mayor de Blasio’s announcement on the two-case rule, Justin Krebs (Secretary, District 15 President's Council; Exec. Board Member, PS39 Parent) issued the following statement:
”This is a good step to reduce disruption and get more schools open more days—much like adding an opt in period and hopefully changing the 6 foot rule. But to really get all kids back full time in person this fall, we need to prioritize a real plan immediately. I’m disappointed that after months to plan we’re still missing definitions around testing and tracing—and parents are still left wondering when their kid’s school could close.”(CONTINUED…)
Statement: Justin Krebs on Today’s School Budget Amnesty Announcement
Following Mayor de Blasio’s announcement that schools will have funding returned that they otherwise would have lost through the school budget clawbacks, Justin Krebs (Secretary, District 15 President's Council; Exec. Board Member, PS39 PA) issued the following statement:
“This is a huge victory for students, administrators, parents, and teachers. This is exactly what parents and educators across D15 and D13 were rallying for this Friday, in solidarity with schools across the city, and I’m excited that Chancellor Porter is listening and responding to parents around this issue. But this can’t just be a one time shift in policy -- we need to prioritize school budgets every year regardless of federal funding. This amnesty is the first step -- next we need commitments of more funding, more resources and a real plan for in-person learning in the fall.”
Kids Not Cuts: Brooklyn Students And Parents Rallied Against Budget Clawbacks
Dozens of PTA leaders, concerned parents and students from across Brooklyn, including Assemblymembers Carroll and Simon, rallied at Grand Army Plaza against proposed budget clawbacks -- requiring schools that have enrollment drops to return millions to the DOE. Schools have had to contend with increasing costs from additional pandemic related costs, including hiring more substitute teachers and implementing hybrid as well as remote programs.

“This is not the time to cut school budgets,” said Justin Krebs, Secretary of the District 15 Presidents Council, Board Member of the PS 39 Parents Association, and parent of three elementary school girls. “Teachers and administrators are in dire need of resources to keep our kids’ education afloat. “
Four “Simple” Things We Can Do to Green the 39th Council District Right Now
Justin Krebs, candidate for the 39th Council District, released a four-point platform of quick, high-impact actions he would initiate in 2022 to fight climate change and make streets safer in Brooklyn without waiting for citywide action.
If elected, Justin will make it a top priority to roll out these initiatives in early 2022:
Go Big on Rooftop Solar for Both Owners and Renters
Go Big on Safe Streets and Pedestrian-First Zones
Go Big on Reducing our Food and Waste Footprint
Accelerate the Cleanup of Toxic Legacies in our Backyard
Statement: Justin Krebs on De Blasio’s Opt-in Period Announcement
Following Mayor de Blasio’s announcement that there will be another opt-in period for students to return to schools, Justin Krebs (Starter of petition to reopen opt-in days; Secretary, District 15 President's Council; Exec. Board Member, PS39 PA) issued the following statement:
“This is a victory for parents and students that have been locked out of in-person education for their kids by an arbitrary decision to cancel opt-in periods. Thousands of families signed the petition for more opt-in periods—and hopefully they’re being heard and will have their chance. But I’m tired of students and parents having to plan their lives around unpredictable and capricious statements from Mayor de Blasio and the complete lack of planning and transparency from the administration. If schools are going to increase their in-person enrollments, this doesn’t just happen by press release. We’re also going to have to do away with the 2-case rule to reduce unnecessary closures, change guidelines from 6ft to 3ft to accommodate more students, and give principals the resources to make this work. This is also a reminder of why we need a plan—now—for how we’ll reopen schools safely in the fall. Parents, students, teachers, and principals have had enough of this chaos. Let’s get more kids back to school now—and all kids back to school in the fall.”
In Celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day, Beloved Brooklyn Bar Dram Shop Reopens
After a year of shut down, the Brooklyn bar Dram Shop reopened its doors this Saint Patrick’s Day. Dram Shop, located on 339 9th street between 5th and 6th ave, has served Brooklyn residents for over 15 years. The bar’s revitalization includes new outdoor seating and limited indoor capacity. All waiters are required to wear masks.
Regular patron Justin Krebs, founder of Drinking Liberally and candidate for City Council, toasted the reopening with friends at an outside happy hour to christen the new seating and welcome back the neighborhood water hole. “Two weeks before Dram Shop closed, we hosted a Super Tuesday watch party there. It’s a place I’ve gone with friends—and where, at the bar, I’ve made friends. .So many neighborhood bars got hit by the pandemic—I’ve missed my ice cold Sweet Action, the familiar staff, the friendly regulars.”
Petition: Get NYC Schools Back In-Person 5-Days-A-Week This Fall!
Mayor De Blasio, Governor Cuomo, Chancellor Carranza, City Council Members and all 2021 Candidates
Get serious about getting us back to 5-day-a-week in-person school this fall!
This means making it one of the City’s top priorities to make a back to school plan that works for all families and is safe for teachers, staff, and administrators. The plan must be based on public health research and developmentally appropriate educational practices. We must engage all stakeholders across our city —teachers, administrators, staff, families, students, city leaders— in making this plan. And the plan must be fully resourced and implemented ahead of time.
We need to hear your commitment to these principles and your plan to start on this now and not as an afterthought.
