The New York League of Conservation Voters Endorses Justin Krebs

Krebs has a climate plan for the 39th District that focuses on rooftop solar, street safety for pedestrians and bikers, reducing waste, Open Streets, and cleaning up the Gowanus Canal

BROOKLYN, NY -- The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) announced today their endorsement of Justin Krebs for City Council in Brooklyn’s 39th District. The endorsement highlights Justin’s longtime fight against climate change and his commitment to creating more open space for all New Yorkers.  NYLCV fights for clean water and air, renewable energy and open space statewide, and is one of the largest environmental organizations to weigh in on this race.

“I’ve been working on environmental issues, open space advocacy, and the fight against climate change on local and national levels for 20 years,” said City Council Candidate Justin Krebs. “In the face of the climate crisis, New York City has to be a champion for bold climate policies, and from solar panels and safe streets to reducing waste and cleaning-up the Gowanus Canal, we can do so much right here in our backyard.  I’m incredibly proud to receive NYLCV’s endorsement and promise to go big on climate.  Together we must go green and make a better city for our children.”

Krebs’s climate plan for the 39th District includes more rooftop solar options for owners and renters, making streets safer for pedestrians and bikers, reducing waste, advocating for more Play Streets around schools, expanding the Open Streets program and cleaning the Gowanus canal.

“The Gowanus Canal’s toxic legacy has lasted too long,” said Krebs. “We can’t let pollution from the City’s sewers continue to flood our canal. It is the City Council’s responsibility to move quickly on cleaning up the canal for the safety of our community.”

Krebs has been biking all 120 miles of the 39th district -- as part of his #BikeEveryBlock project -- continuing his lifelong enthusiasm for biking and allowing him to see firsthand where our City’s bike infrastructure works and where it must be improved.   Krebs also plans to pursue smarter crash investigations, see traffic enforcement transferred to the Department of Transportation, and push the next Mayor to adopt an ambitious bike master plan.

As the Director of Campaigns at MoveOn, Krebs worked on efforts to push cities and states to opt into the Paris Agreement when Trump pulled out, amplify Youth Climate Strike's demand for a climate debate during the democratic presidential primary, and support the Green New Deal.  “And despite the constant rollbacks from the Trump administration, we fought hard and made huge environmental strides,” said Krebs.  “I’m thrilled to bring that experience to the 39th District.”

Justin Krebs is running for City Council in District 39 in Brooklyn which includes the neighborhoods of Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Kensington, part of Borough Park, the southern part of Gowanus, the western parts of Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill, and the Columbia Waterfront District.
